The Domestic Silkworm Moth (Bombyx mori) is an insect from the moth family Bombycidae. A silkworm is the larva of a silk moth. It’s an economically important insect, being a main producer of silk. Domestic silk moths are entirely dependent on humans for reproduction, this is a result of millennia of selective breeding. The practice of breeding silkworms for the production of raw silk, has been under way in China for over 5,000 years. In modern day, this practice has spread to many locations around the world. This little moth in resin is plump and fuzzy with little black eyes and typical ‘moth antennae.’ This specimen is definitely an interesting and educational piece. As with all real moths in resin, size, coloration and positioning can vary slightly. Lucite block measures approx. 2 3/4 inches wide, 1 1/2 inches tall.
