Flamethrower team (Polish)

Description Flamethrowers were employed by the Polish People’s Army during the Second World War as part of their Soviet‑supplied arsenal. Introduced into Polish units after the army’s formation in 1943, these weapons were primarily used in urban combat and assaults on fortified positions. Soviet models such as the ROKS‑2 and ROKS‑3 were issued, designed to resemble rifles to reduce the risk of enemy snipers targeting operators. Flamethrowers were highly effective in clearing bunkers, trenches, and buildings, creating both physical destruction and psychological shock among German defenders. Their use required specially trained soldiers, as the weapon was heavy, dangerous, and exposed its operator to enemy fire. Polish forces employed flamethrowers during campaigns in Belarus, Poland, and Germany, particularly in close‑quarters fighting. Although limited in number, they provided a powerful tool for breaking resistance in fortified areas, symbolising the integration of Soviet tactics and equipment into Polish battlefield operations.
